Are you confused about how to create an online business? Frustrated that building online takes too long? Unsure what to focus on that will bring in new clients?
I have found the most effective and efficient way to move your business online is by seeking the help of a coach. Not just any online coach – a coach that truly understands your industry.
A complete marketing strategy and understanding of sales psychology to build a business online is not something that you can find easily on YouTube, watch in a webinar, or read in a free PDF download.
My Coaching Journey
When I started online, I believed I didn’t need to invest in a coach. It seemed quite easy to create a Facebook page, upload an event, and write social media posts. I was doing all the ‘right’ things for my business.
Week after week, I sat in my beautiful studio space, with 1-5 people attending my movement lessons. Sometimes no one showed up. My classes weren’t growing, even with all the efforts I was making to share my events online.
Have you had this experience?
I felt discouraged. I thought marketing online was going to increase my classes. It was then I realised that I needed direction and strategy. One of the coaches I was following was opening a 3-month group coaching programme. At the time, it was a huge investment for me.
I was scared and nervous:
- What if it didn’t work for me?
- What if I didn’t get a return on my investment?
- Was it really going to work for me?
Honestly, it was the best investment I made. Investing in coaching gave me the strategy, support, and guidance I needed to find clients online and increase my local in-person classes. At the same time, I decided to transition to teaching online – that was 7 years ago now.
Understanding Professional Coaching
What is a coach? Why would you hire one? And why investing in a coach who understands your industry will help you be successful?
What is an Online Marketing Coach?
An online marketing coach is a consultant who provides you and your business with an outside perspective. They help you build a step-by-step plan to grow your business using social media and online tools. They help you be accountable for implementing what you learn. Knowledge is great, taking action gets results.
What Do Online Coaches Do and Why Should I Hire One?
-
Identify Blind Spots
Good coaches help you see your blind spots. They show you the areas in your online business strategy that need to change and can be streamlined, but you aren’t sure how to do it. -
Provide Proven Blueprints
Coaches have the blueprint to get you where you need to go because they have the experience. They’ve been where you are now. A coach can be your compass, showing you the right direction and leading to faster and better results. -
Navigate Key Business Areas
Online marketing coaches provide you with the skills to navigate three key areas:- Find new interested ideal clients (Lead generation)
- Nurture new subscribers on your email list (Lead nurturing)
- Encourage your subscribers to buy your offers (Converting leads into buyers)
-
Close Knowledge Gaps
You can’t research your way out of a problem you don’t know how to articulate. What most people don’t realise until they come up against a problem is that they can’t find a solution using a Google search. What exactly do you type into Google to find the answers? -
Address Limiting Beliefs
Most importantly, coaches help you unlock self-imposed limiting beliefs. A coach will help you process your unique circumstances or feelings in a thoughtful way, equipping you with the tools and skills to better self-manage. -
Provide Accountability
The right coach will hold you accountable and keep you on the right track to reach your desired goal. They will allow you to find your own way of implementing it. One aspect of my own coaching is I don’t teach a one-size-fits-all approach. I look for each client’s individual strengths and work with them to build their business in a way that’s comfortable for them. One of my top strengths, according to Gallup’s strengths test, is individualisation. -
Establish New Habits
Open your mind and body to new habits and ideas. We all fall into patterns and habits that may be holding us back from reaching success. The right coach will help you establish habits to help you be successful.
The Real Investment in Coaching
How Much Do Online Coaches Cost?
The investment in professional coaching can vary significantly based on experience and programme structure:
- Entry-level coaching programmes: Starting from $1,500 for 3 months
- Established coaches: $5,000+ for 3-month programmes (including weekly calls and programme access during the coaching period)
- High-end coaching packages: $20,000+ for year-long programmes
- Alumni rates: Many programmes offer continued access at reduced rates after the initial programme period
Remember: Professional coaching is an investment in your business growth. Access to programme materials and coaching calls typically has defined timeframes, with additional fees for extended access – this is standard industry practice.
What’s Not Included in Professional Coaching?
It’s important to understand what coaching is and isn’t:
Coaching IS:
- Strategic business guidance
- Accountability for implementation
- Skill development support
- Professional feedback
- Framework and system building
Coaching IS NOT:
- Therapy or counselling
- Personal emotional support
- Friendship
- 24/7 availability
- Crisis management
Professional Boundaries in Coaching
Successful coaching relationships require clear boundaries:
- Scheduled call times are fixed
- Communication happens in designated channels
- Personal challenges are addressed through appropriate support networks
- Focus remains on business objectives
- Programme timelines and access periods are respected
These boundaries ensure that both coach and client maintain a professional relationship focused on business growth and development.
Why Hire an Online Marketing Coach Who Is a Somatics Movement Practitioner?
If a coach doesn’t understand your industry, they more than likely cannot truly grasp the nature of how to communicate with your clients. They will usually compare you to a similar industry.
For a Feldenkrais practitioner, this can be problematic. My first coach would compare the practice with chiropractic or yoga practice and never learnt to pronounce the name. Called it “Felden-Arts”. She did help me with understanding the online marketing fundamentals, and I made it my own through trial and error.
Since then, I have invested in multiple high-level coaches with different skills in areas I wanted to explore deeper. This has enabled me to create a unique coaching package of my own to suit Somatic and Movement practitioners like myself, which I continue to refine and develop as I upgrade my knowledge and learn more about what my clients’ needs are.
The Current Reality of Online Business
Bringing your business online is no longer a nice-to-have – it is essential to a profitable and sustainable business in 2025.
1 in 3 people will look at social media when looking for more information about a service.
You don’t have to be present on social media 24/7 to make an impact. You don’t need a complicated funnel or fancy website.
Simply knowing what content to create and having a way for people to subscribe to your email list ensures that the time you spend posting to your social media channels is not wasted.
