Transforming Sensitivity: Patricia Zehentmayr’s Journey to Empowering Highly Sensitive People
In our latest episode of the Awareness in Motion Podcast, I had the pleasure of reconnecting with Patricia Zehentmayr, a dedicated practitioner focusing on highly sensitive people (HSP). Patricia shared her inspiring journey over the past year, discussing her transition from a local practice to an online business, reaching out to HSPs worldwide. Her story is a testament to resilience, adaptability, and the power of community.
Discovering the HSP Niche
Patricia’s journey began in 1996 when she was identified as a Highly Sensitive Person. This revelation set her on a path of self-discovery and learning. Along the way, she mastered various techniques such as the Feldenkrais Method, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), and Inner Reconciliation to skillfully communicate with the nervous system. Her passion for helping others led her to share these gentle methods with her clients, transforming lives one step at a time.
Adapting to Change
The COVID-19 pandemic brought significant changes to Patricia’s practice. With in-person sessions no longer feasible, she saw an opportunity to take her expertise online. This shift allowed her to reach a global audience, focusing exclusively on highly sensitive people. Patricia candidly shared her initial struggles with social media and how perseverance helped her build a successful online presence.
Launching HSP Harmony
One of the highlights of our conversation was Patricia’s excitement about launching her first online offer, “HSP Harmony: 15 Days to Ease and Equilibrium.” This program is designed to help HSPs navigate their trait, providing tools and exercises to achieve balance and calm. The positive response from participants has been overwhelming, validating Patricia’s efforts and dedication.
The Importance of Community
Throughout our discussion, the theme of community and connection stood out. For highly sensitive people, finding like-minded individuals can be incredibly empowering. Patricia emphasized the importance of experiential learning and doing the “healing work,” which can lead to profound personal growth. Joining a supportive community, like the Movement Online Academy, can provide invaluable resources, support, and a sense of belonging.

What the Research Says:
- Highly Sensitive People (HSP): Dr. Elaine Aaron’s research has been foundational in understanding the HSP trait. Her book, “The Highly Sensitive Person,” outlines the characteristics and advantages of being highly sensitive. Studies have shown that HSPs process sensory data more deeply due to increased brain activity in areas related to empathy and awareness (source).
- Somatic Exercises and Feldenkrais Method: Research indicates that somatic exercises and the Feldenkrais Method can significantly improve physical and mental well-being. A study published in the “Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies” found that Feldenkrais lessons can enhance flexibility, reduce pain, and improve overall quality of life (source).
- Meditation and Nervous System Regulation: Numerous studies have supported the benefits of meditation in regulating the nervous system. A review in “Frontiers in Human Neuroscience” highlights how meditation practices can reduce stress, improve emotional regulation, and enhance cognitive function (source).

Patricia Zehentmayr’s Bio
Living in a too loud, fast-paced, competitive world always posed challenges for Patricia. Was something wrong with her? In 1996, she was told by a psychologist that no, nothing was wrong; she actually had a trait shared by 15-20% of people – that of being a Highly Sensitive Person. This started her on a path to learn all she could to navigate this trait, leaning into its advantages. Along the way, she mastered Feldenkrais, Emotional Freedom Technique, and Inner Reconciliation to communicate with the nervous system skillfully. It is her passion to share these gentle methods with other HSPs.
